Lone Star Legends: Ten of the Winningest Texas High School Football Coaches

"Football is King" in Texas. If there is a state where the high school, college and professional football fans are fanatics, it’s Texas. It would be far easier to categorize who would not read this book than who will. Lone Star Legends contains stories from the coaches about their coaching careers, comments on how the legendary Gordon Wood affected their lives and coaching, up to date bios and humor from ten of the winningest high school football coaches -active and retired - in Texas high school football history. Photos that span four decades of high school football.

Not all of these coaches have won a state title but all of them have reached the semi-finals in their careers at least once. Please note: these career numbers do not include wins and losses for this past season for active coaches. Also, G.A. Moore passed Gordon Wood in career wins during the 2003 season. His record now stands at 402 72 9.and is the winnigest coach in the history of Texas high school football.

A group of 1500 East Texas coaches, players and fans were poled giving them a brief synopsis of the book and an opportunity to name coaches. Well over three quarters of the names in the above list came from that poll.

Why will this book will be a number one seller. Two reasons: 1) Content - Texas high school football, and 2) the simple fact of numbers - potential buyers.

Determining a readers market is not an easy task because of the enormous fan base for football much less all sports

Since we know high school football is "King in Texas", I will use that as a basis for marketing purposes. There are 1146 public high schools in Texas. 213 private schools. Over 65,000 athletes participate in high school football each year in Texas. There are over 13,000 high school football coaches alone. The average attendance (class 1A to class 5A) per regular season game is 2000 adult fans. That’s almost 3 million high school football enthusiasts in the state of Texas that attend games and that are potential buyers.

Coaches from across the nation will enjoy this book. Football coaches alone (in the US - all levels) number over a half a million. Many, many high school and college fans from across will enjoy reading this book.
