The 'Scoop' on College Recruiting

What Every Parent Should Know About the Game of Recruiting!

By Aaron S. Lee

"The Scoop on College Recruiting: What Every Parent Should Know About the Game of Recruiting!" is a book - long overdue - that will give parents of prospective college recruits an insight as never before in what needs to be done to get their child athlete recruited by a major college. . The process, whether is be football, basketball, volleyball, etc., is virtually the same.

Contrary to popular belief, college recruiting is a business. When colleges succeed in recruiting the best athletes for their school, they increase the profit the school takes in each year. If a school finishes as national champion in a given sport or among the top programs each year, it reaps the benefits of recruiting. Alumni will give more money, media will pay more attention, fans will purchase more school-related products, new students will increase enrollment, etc. - the list goes on.

What parents need to know and understand is that "Getting their athlete recruited" is a business. Something college recruiters would rather keep them ignorant of. "The Scoop on College Recruiting"

According to the National Federation of High Schools, the greatest participation in sports is football, with 1,023,142 boys participating at the high school level. There are approximately 254,000 seniors who play high school football but there are only 5,042 athletic scholarships awarded at the NCAA's highest level - Division I-A. The odds are 50:1 against getting a scholarship.

In Division I-AA, there are 4,356 football scholarships awarded each year. Plus there is Division II, Division III, NAIA and junior college. Each has a different process and set of rules in regards to awarding athletic scholarships, but can be a viable option if they don’t make the major college cut.

One of the key selling points to "The Scoop on College Recruiting" is that the industry shows only about five percent of the athletes that play sports have the talent to play at the next level. However, many parents still hold to the possiblity that maybe their son or daughter can garner an athletic scholarship and become the exception.

Multiply these above figures by the student athletes vying for sports scholarships across the board each year and the "The Scoop on College Recruiting" will be guaranteed success.

And according to Emfinger, parents need to begin the educational process of recruiting with their children in junior high school. Now, we just multiplied our potential buying demographic by a factor of six.
