Moments from the Heart!: Inspirational Christian Poems

By Donna K. Speights

"Moments from the Heart!" is a compilation of forty-three of the over two hundred inspiration poems the author has written. The first, "Look at the Cross" was an answer to prayer. during a stressful period in the author’s life, she cried out to God for help. Help can in the form of poetry. He shared His message to her through her own pen. As the leader of a women’s prayer ministry, she began to share her poems with others. Many lives were blessed as God shared his word through her pen. Since that time her poems has been shared through the world. Ministers, evangelist, missionaries and lay workers has used her poems to share God in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Brazil, Portugal, Nepal, Belize, Russia, the list is endless.

Hundreds of words could be written as to why "Moments from the Heart!" will be a best seller. Instead of demographics for comparison just read three of the poems. If these three poems don’t touch the heart and sole of who read them something is wrong.

Look At The Cross

Written by Donna K. Speights

When I have trials in life and feel all is lost.

All I must do is look at the cross.

I look at the shape made of that old tree,

My Savior's arms were spread for me.

As the soldiers put nails through His hands,

My father knew of heavenly plans.

As sinners gambled for my Savior's clothes,

He felt the pain that no man knows.

As doubters looked on and called Him names,

My Savior still loved them just the same.

As the soldier pierced His precious side,

My Savior still hung there with His arms open wide.

As the sky became dark and it began to rain,

My Savior cried out to His Father with pain.

The rains were so hard it began to flood.

Rain from the cross, my Savior's blood.

Mercy, He cried, but not for He.

Mercy, He cried, just for me.

The world was dark and all seemed lost.

But mercy was there hung on the cross.

As Jesus hung there with His arms open wide,

He looked to heaven and then He died.

Three days went by until He rose again,

Wiping away all my sin.

Now as I think of that precious day,

When Jesus took my sin away.

Now as I think of that old tree,

I praise His name for victory.

When I have trials in life and feel all is lost,

All I must do is look at the cross.

Things may happen I don't understand,

But through it all He'll hold my hand.

That same hand that was nailed to the tree.

That same hand stretched out to me.

As I take life day by day,

As I bow my head and try to pray.

I give him the trust that he has earned,

Through all of my hurts, I have learned,

When I have trials in life and feel all is lost,

All I must do is look at the cross.

Wooden Hearts

Written by Donna K. Speights

The shape of a heart is the symbol of love,

An emotion given by our Father above.

But today it often seems,

No one really knows what love means.

People are so selfish and often mean,

Too busy for others and those special things.

As I look at the world today,

I think of the time God washed it away.

Noah was the faithful one He chose,

An ark from gopher wood arose.

To save the ones that still believed,

Floods from heaven the wood hearted received.

In God’s Word it promises to reward the good,

But not for those with hearts of wood.

In church we sit to hear what our pastor has to share,

But we can’t wait to get away from there.

We hear of how Jesus died for our sins,

But can’t even say an occasional AMEN.

We sit in church every Sunday like we should,

All sitting there with our hearts of wood.

We can’t even commit to pray for someone,

Our lives are too busy - we have to run.

It says in the Bible to repent of our sin,

But when will that redemption start to begin?

Not until we allow Jesus to enter our wooden hearts,

Will love for others begin to start.

As we let the love of Christ enter in,

Our wooden hearts will begin to mend.

Colossians 3:1 says to "set your hearts on things from above",

Only then can wooden hearts become ones of love.

Angels of the Garden

Written by Donna K. Speights

I was in the garden the other day,

When a butterfly came my way.

It lit on a flower near by me,

So close that it’s little face I could see.

The face of an angel it appeared to be,

A masterpiece of God’s majesty.

Wings soft and transparent as the air,

Magnificent colors everywhere.

Each stroke of paint so finely done,

God Himself must have painted every one.

As I thought of how far that butterfly had come,

A beautiful creature from an ugly ole worm.

As I looked into that little butterfly face,

I thought of how I had come from the same place.

I was ugly too, you see,

With all that sin all over me.

Then my Savior painted me,

And changed my life for eternity.

God took His love and painted wings,

My sin He turned into snow white things.

Jesus’ blood He used to shade,

All the ugliness sin had made.

Wings He gave me so all could see,

A brand new creature, God made out of me.

In a moment the butterfly was gone,

Off again to parts unknown.

But as that beautiful creature flew,

In my heart I somehow knew,

That God had sent an angel that day,

To remind me how His blood,

Took my sin away.
